Public Survey
A door-to-door public survey was completed to gather input from people who will be using and enjoying the public realm in their daily life. The survey gauged the needs and wants of the public to inform the development of the PRDM. The survey was conducted on Abu Dhabi Island, Abu Dhabi Mainland, and Al Ain. Survey respondents covered a broad range of residents including samples from the Emirati, guest workers, and expatriate populations. In total, 582 households were surveyed.
Survey respondents were presented with a series of pictures representing the four categories of the public realm: parks, streetscapes, coastal areas and public places. A short series of questions accompanied each picture; the respondent was asked to answer specific questions, but also to provide any additional comment or concern he may have.
The survey exercise provided a sense of the resident’s needs to be addressed as a part of the planning process. Table 1.1 identifies the highlights from the survey and how this input is integrated into the PRDM.
